T407 - Poltava L80

T407 - Poltava L80

Launched in 1712 under the vision of Peter the Great, Poltava marked a defining moment in the rise of the Imperial Russian Navy, embodying strength, ambition, and the transition toward European naval engineering during the Great Northern War. The ship stands as a testament to early 18th-century maritime innovation and naval prestige.

Master craftsmen bring this remarkable wooden model to life entirely by hand, working from historical photographs, technical drawings, and original plans. Built faithfully to scale, it is crafted from premium woods including western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany. Each model is individually constructed using the traditional plank-on-frame method, closely reflecting authentic shipbuilding practices. Hundreds of hours are dedicated to shaping, assembling, and refining every element, followed by a stringent quality control process before the model leaves the workshop.

This Poltava model commands attention with its gracefully contoured hull, rich layered planking, and an expansive three-mast sail plan. The hand-sewn fabric sails are carefully shaped to appear billowed by the wind, creating a vivid sense of movement and life. An intricate web of rigging lines, blocks, and yards interconnects the masts with precision, while detailed cannon ports, deck fittings, and historically accurate flags complete the ship’s powerful and elegant profile. Mounted on a finely finished wooden base, the model conveys presence, balance, and exceptional craftsmanship.

A distinguished centerpiece perfect for home, office, library, yacht club, or executive interiors, and an impressive gift for maritime history enthusiasts, collectors, and admirers of finely crafted ship models.

History

Poltava was the first battleship of the Russian Baltic Fleet, launched in 1712 during the reign of Peter the Great. Built as a symbol of Russia’s rising naval ambitions, the ship served to protect key trade routes and strengthen the empire’s presence in the Baltic Sea. Its construction marked a turning point in Russia’s maritime history.

Throughout its service, Poltava played an important role in training crews and supporting naval operations. Although it never saw major combat, the ship embodied Russia’s growing technical skills and strategic vision. After decades of use, Poltava was eventually decommissioned, but its legacy lived on as an early milestone in the development of the Russian Navy.
