T406 - Poltava L60

T406 - Poltava L60

Launched in 1712 under the leadership of Peter the Great, Poltava was one of the earliest ships of the line built for the Imperial Russian Navy and a symbol of Russia’s emergence as a maritime power during the Great Northern War. The vessel reflects the strong influence of European shipbuilding traditions blended with early Russian naval design.

Master craftsmen carefully handcraft this highly detailed wooden model entirely from scratch, using historical photographs, technical drawings, and original plans. Built accurately to scale, it is constructed from premium woods such as western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany. Each model is individually hand built using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method, closely resembling the techniques used in real shipbuilding. Hundreds of hours are invested in completing each piece, followed by a strict quality control process before it leaves the workshop.

This Poltava model features an elegantly shaped hull with finely layered wooden planking, a complex three-mast rigging system, and hand-sewn fabric sails that bring a sense of movement and realism. Detailed cannon ports, deck fittings, ladders, and rigging lines are carefully executed, while historically accurate flags and a polished wooden display base enhance its visual presence and craftsmanship.

A striking centerpiece perfect for home, office, library, or executive decor, and a distinguished gift for maritime history enthusiasts, collectors, and admirers of fine handcrafted ship models.

History

Poltava was the first battleship of the Russian Baltic Fleet, launched in 1712 during the reign of Peter the Great. Built as a symbol of Russia’s rising naval ambitions, the ship served to protect key trade routes and strengthen the empire’s presence in the Baltic Sea. Its construction marked a turning point in Russia’s maritime history.

Throughout its service, Poltava played an important role in training crews and supporting naval operations. Although it never saw major combat, the ship embodied Russia’s growing technical skills and strategic vision. After decades of use, Poltava was eventually decommissioned, but its legacy lived on as an early milestone in the development of the Russian Navy.
