T405 - Poltava L50

T405 - Poltava L50

Launched in 1712 under the reign of Peter the Great, Poltava was one of the first major ships of the line built for the Imperial Russian Navy and became a powerful symbol of Russia’s emerging naval strength during the Great Northern War. The vessel represents a milestone in early 18th-century warship design, combining European shipbuilding influence with Russian ambition.

Master craftsmen meticulously handcraft this highly detailed wooden model entirely from scratch, using historical photographs, technical drawings, and original plans. Built precisely to scale, it is made from premium woods such as western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany. Each model is individually hand built using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method, closely reflecting the process of constructing an actual ship. Hundreds of hours are dedicated to crafting every detail, followed by a rigorous quality control process before the model leaves the workshop.

This Poltava model showcases elegant hull lines, finely finished wooden planking, and an impressive multi-mast rigging system with hand-sewn fabric sails. Authentic deck fittings, cannon ports, detailed rigging lines, and historically accurate flags enhance its realism, while the rich wood tones and polished display base add a refined presence.

A distinguished display piece perfect for home, office, library, or executive decor and an exceptional gift for maritime history enthusiasts, collectors, and lovers of fine handcrafted ship models.

History

Poltava was the first battleship of the Russian Baltic Fleet, launched in 1712 during the reign of Peter the Great. Built as a symbol of Russia’s rising naval ambitions, the ship served to protect key trade routes and strengthen the empire’s presence in the Baltic Sea. Its construction marked a turning point in Russia’s maritime history.

Throughout its service, Poltava played an important role in training crews and supporting naval operations. Although it never saw major combat, the ship embodied Russia’s growing technical skills and strategic vision. After decades of use, Poltava was eventually decommissioned, but its legacy lived on as an early milestone in the development of the Russian Navy.
