This Cutty Sark Limited Edition model is a museum-quality masterpiece, meticulously handcrafted to reflect the ship’s beauty and engineering with exceptional precision. Built using the traditional plank-on-frame method, the hull combines rich tones of Western Red Cedar, mahogany, and teak, each plank hand-shaped and sanded to achieve a flawlessly smooth, natural finish.
The rigging is crafted with extraordinary care. Every knot, line, and pulley is individually tied, forming a complex network of standing and running rigging that mirrors the real clipper. Hand-stitched fabric sails are mounted with precise curve and tension, capturing the aerodynamic elegance that defined the Cutty Sark’s legendary speed.
The deck is richly detailed with polished brass railings, capstans, skylights, ladders, deckhouses, and perfectly planked surfaces. Lifeboats are hand-built with tiny ribs, and fittings such as the helm, binnacle, vents, windlass, and the iconic figurehead are rendered with remarkable accuracy.
Custom-made brass components—including cannons, navigation lights, chain plates, and deck hardware—are polished to a brilliant finish, enhancing the model’s luxurious and premium presence. Reinforced masts and a fully rigged bowsprit complete the authentic, towering sail plan.
Presented fully assembled on a solid wood base with a brass nameplate, this Limited Edition model reflects OMH’s dedication to craftsmanship and historical fidelity. It is a striking centerpiece for collectors and maritime enthusiasts alike.
History
Launched in 1869 at Dumbarton, Scotland, the Cutty Sark was one of the last and fastest tea clippers ever built. Designed at the height of the tea trade, she featured a sleek hull and powerful sail plan engineered to race across the oceans and deliver the first tea of the season to London—a contest of both prestige and profit.
In her early years, Cutty Sark gained fame for her swift passages between China and England. Though she never claimed victory in the legendary tea race, her impressive speed and ability to withstand rough seas secured her reputation as one of the great sailing ships of her era. As steamships began to dominate the tea trade, she transitioned to carrying wool from Australia, where she set time records that stood unmatched among her contemporaries.
By the early 1900s, Cutty Sark retired from commercial service and later served as a training vessel. Eventually preserved in Greenwich, London, she stands today as one of the world’s most iconic historic ships—celebrated for her beauty, craftsmanship, and extraordinary speed, and remembered as a shining symbol of the golden age of clippers.
