2. The History of the Saint Esprit Model Ship

The Saint-Esprit, affectionately known as the "Holy Ghost," was the leading 80-gun ship of her class in the French Navy. Generously funded by a donation from the Order of the Holy Spirit, she was bestowed with a name that reflected her noble origins.

Throughout her illustrious career, the Saint-Esprit played a pivotal role in significant naval engagements. She bravely defended French interests at sea from the Battle of Ushant to the Armada of 1779. This was under La Motte-Picquet's command.

In April 1794, they renamed her Scipion, but she maintained her spirit of resilience. She bravely faced the perils of the sea, even amidst the chaos of battle. During the Battle of 13 Prairial in Year 2, under Huguet's leadership, she faced a tough fight that left her mastless.

Tragically, her storied journey met its end on January 30, 1795, during the treacherous Croisière du Grand Hiver. Yet, amidst the wreckage, a glimmer of hope emerged as most of her crew was rescued by the courageous Trente-et-un Mai.

Though the waves may have claimed her physical form, the legacy of the Saint-Esprit lives on, immortalized in the annals of maritime history. Her tale serves as a testament to the bravery of sailors and the enduring spirit of the sea
