2. The History of the  Santa Maria Columbus Ship Model

The Santa Maria Ship Columbus, originally named Marigalante, served as Christopher Columbus' flagship on his inaugural voyage to America. Built in Pontevedra, Galicia, in Spain's northwest region, this wooden model ships measured approximately 117 feet (36 meters) in length.

Sporting a deck, three masts, forecastle, and sterncastle, she was armed with bombards firing granite balls. Despite her size and firepower, tragedy struck when she ran aground off Haiti on December 25, 1492, leading to her loss. Remarkably, her sister ships, the Niña and Pinta, both smaller in size, safely returned to Spain despite encountering perilous storms.
