Launched in 1912, the TSS Earnslaw is one of New Zealand’s most iconic steamships, built to serve Lake Wakatipu and famously known as “The Lady of the Lake.” For over a century, she has symbolized classic steam-powered elegance and remains one of the oldest operational passenger steamships in the world.

This finely detailed model is entirely handcrafted by master artisans using historical photographs, technical drawings, and original ship plans. Built precisely to scale from premium hardwoods such as western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany, each model is individually hand-built using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method – the same approach used in real shipbuilding. Completing a single model requires hundreds of hours of skilled craftsmanship and must pass a strict quality control process before leaving the workshop.

The painted finish faithfully reflects the Earnslaw’s distinctive appearance, featuring a white and deep red hull, a central steam funnel, deck cranes, lifeboats, rigging details, and finely crafted railings. The enclosed passenger deck, authentic superstructure layout, and national flag add historical accuracy, all elegantly mounted on a solid wooden base with brass nameplate.
